This song references the human race's own destruction and the doomsday clock that keeps tabs on our impending demise.
At the time of release, the clock had moved much closer to midnight amid the end of the INF treaty between the US and Russia, tensions with Iran, and the failure to combat climate change.

How close to the end are we all
The hands remain unchanged
As we brace for the fall
The end is coming

2 minutes to midnight
I don’t believe we’ll live tonight
2 minutes to midnight
I don’t believe we’ll live to see the rest of our lives

The end of human civilization is near
We’re damned and by tomorrow the ash will be cleared
But still, the fire burns underground
close to the surface with corpses abound
Resembling amorphous debris
